Velddrif is a small fisherman’s town located on the west coast of the Western Cape province. History

Not much is to be said about the discovery of Velddrif. The story is actually pretty simple. The town is now situated on what once was a farm, owned by Theunis Smit. The name came from the fact that Theunis took his cattle and the rest of his animal stock through a drift in the field (drift meaning ‘drif’ in Afrikaans and field meaning ‘veld’ in Afrikaans’) in order to find grazing fields across the river.

As the town is of a very smaller size, there are unfortunately not a lot of options when it comes to educational facilities. The schools that are available in the area include Noordhoek Primary School, Velddrif High School and ‘Visvoetjies’ Day-Care Center.
