How to Pack Christmas Decorations For a Move?
Christmas decorations are a fantastic addition to a household around the holiday season and are loved by many. However, they are often very fragile and hard to pack away when you are moving. How can you pack up your Christmas decorations safely for a move? Read on as we show you how.
Use the original packaging
This is an obvious one. If you have any of the original packaging that the decorations came in when you first bought them, it is always a good idea to store them back into those containers. This is because the packaging is usually created specifically to keep that very item or items safe. Smaller boxes can then be packed into bigger cardboard boxes so that it is easier to pack into a removal truck. Use packing paper for any boxes that have empty spaces in them, to stop everything from moving around and becoming damaged.
For fragile items use plenty of packing paper
A lot of Christmas decorations are very fragile which means they can be easily damaged if not packed away correctly. When packing fragile decorations into boxes, first wrap them up in packing paper or bubble wrap, before placing them into the box. Ensure that heavy decorations are not placed on top of others and place packing paper in between any gaps in the box to stop them from moving around.
For smaller decorations, you can pack them up in household objects
Smaller decorations can be wrapped up and placed into boxes that can be found around the house. Shoe boxes and biscuit tins are a great choice as they are strong and a great size. These can then be placed into a bigger box along with other decorations to keep safe.
Ensure your Christmas lights don’t become tangled
A common problem with packing away Christmas decorations is that Christmas lights often end up getting tangled together. There are multiple ways to stop this from happening, so find what works best for you. Some people use cable ties or string to secure the lights together after they have looped them up. Another way to stop them from getting tangled is to use a tube, for example, a Christmas wrapping paper tube or kitchen roll cardboard tubes to feed them through and wrap around. This will make it easy for you to unravel them when you use them next year.
Label everything
It is unlikely that you will need to open your Christmas decorations boxes straight away when you move into your new house, so it is a great idea to label up all the boxes with exactly what is inside. This will allow your moving team to know that they can be placed in a storage room or cupboard and also reminds you that those boxes might not be important to sort through first. On the boxes that have fragile items, make sure you write ‘FRAGILE’ OR ‘THIS WAY UP’ on them so that you or anyone else that handles the box knows to be gentle with it and not place any other heavy items on top of it.
