The land where Krugersdorp stands today was first discovered in 1885 and became a popular spot to settle after gold was discovered on a farm owned by Parthinus Pretorius. Krugersdorp was only established as an official town when the South African Republic’s Executive Council decided to buy the land in 1887 and establish the town we know today as Krugersdorp.
