Founded in 1853, Darling is a mere 75km from Cape Town. Its agricultural industry incudes grain and dairy farming. It’s famous for its wildflowers and since 1917 has hosted the annual Darling Wildflower Show. The famous satirist, Pieter-Dirk Uys and his cabaret venue, Evita se Perron have become synonymous with the quaint town. The town’s proximity to the West Coast meant that through the establishment of airstrips, it played a central role in the patrolling of the coastline during WW2. This ceased after the war as the Air Force moved to a permanent base at Langebaan Weg. It is however, its charm as a cultural and nature centre for which Darling is known in modern times. A diverse population adds to the allure of the region. The town’s accessibility to Cape Town, vastly improved through the current development of the N7, and the nearby beaches at Melkbos, makes Darling a sought-after residential area. Long a destination for the artistic movers, laid-back visitors are moving to this quaint town and in need of reliable relocation company or furniture.
